Session #18: The College Counters on Compensation
Today, the College passed back their initial counterproposals on Compensation, Dependent Care and Tuition & Fees. We are still in the early stages of negotiating these proposals. We countered on Union Access and Rights, and you can find the counterproposals on our bargaining tracker, here.
When discussing Compensation, the College emphasized that salaries would not decrease as a result of their proposal, however, their proposed salaries are predicated on a 5-course workload. This means that the College is currently proposing that over half of the unit would receive only a 2.5% annual salary adjustment in July with a 25% increase in course load. Does this feel like a raise to you?
We countered on Workload on November 7, 2024, and have not yet received a counterproposal on Workload from the College. When asked if we could expect a response on Workload soon, the College evaded our question.
The College’s proposals made us wonder what values are guiding them. We are committed to upholding Wellesley’s mission to provide an excellent liberal arts education, and it will take our collective strength to get there. We know that an increase in course load is not acceptable to our members and our members will do what it takes to refuse increased work. Our bargaining and organizing committees are holding a town hall on Tuesday, February 11, 4-5pm in person and Wednesday, February 12, 7-8pm via Zoom. Come to the town hall to discuss our options. Fill out this form to RSVP.
The College has promised responses to the rest of our economic proposals in our next bargaining session on Monday, February 10 from 2:30-4:30pm. RSVP coming soon.
